Mr. Adnan Hassan is founder, chairman and CEO of Mecasa Advisors Europe, B.V., an investment advisory boutique, which is setting up the “Blockchain” based Global Bank for Small States (GBSS). Mr. Hassan has served for 3 terms on the Board of Directors, at the World Bank Group (WBG) in Washington, as a special advisor, especially overseeing the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the world’s leading emerging market investor. The WBG invests approximately $65 billion annually in over 500 public and private projects in every sector across 150 plus countries. Previously, Mr. Hassan served as a senior executive of the WBG at various times over a 22-year period from 1991-2013, and worked closely with the 9th president, James Wolfensohn.
Mr. Hassan is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees/Directors of “The BIG Ideas Foundation,” which catalysis innovative big ideas to address global challenges, especially in gifted education, sustainability and governance. He is founder of a real estate development company Mindful Ventures, B.V. on Bonaire, in the Caribbean Netherlands. He is author of Euromoney’s best seller;A Practical Guide to Sovereign Wealth Funds, and has served as the CEO’s advisor at one of the world’s largest sovereign funds.
He is a Silicon Valley pioneer, who built the world’s first electronic investment markets, “IPAnet.” Earlier, Mr. Hassan worked with Mr. John Pickering, at the law firm of Wilmer, Cutler and John Pickering in Washington, D.C. and briefly at Citibank in NYC. He also has served as an advisor to “Investment & Marketing,” his family’s business in Karachi, Pakistan, the city where he was born and raised. Mr. Hassan has a diverse academic background, covering business, policy and science. He has studied at Harvard Business School, Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies and Reed College in the US; and in the Netherlands (AIF), China (CEIBS), India (ISB) and Pakistan (IBA).
